JULIA NIXON
The Alexandria African American Hall Of Fame presents a pre-Mother’s Day celebration featuring the magnificent Julia Nixon
In 1983, Nixon won the role of Effie White in the original Broadway production of “Dreamgirls,” replacing actress Jennifer Holliday. During this time, she was signed to Polygram Records London, with a number one dance hit. This won her a tour with Richard Pryor. Following her Broadway success, she became a fixture on the Washington, D.C., music scene with her group Julia & Company.
This performer brings a program that mixes her signature R & B classics and jazz standards. Julia has been compared to the likes of Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Tina Turner and Barbara Streisand.
Just recently she sold out The Barns of Wolf Trap with her sensational Bacharach review.
