Marcos Ariel

The Alexandria African American Hall Of Fame presents a Brazilian Celebration featuring the magnificent Marcos Ariel

Bossa Nova is today one of the best-known Brazilian music genres abroad. The phrase bossa nova literally means “new trend” or “new wave.”  A lyrical fusion of samba and jazz.

Marcos Ariel became known as a great interpreter and deep connoisseur of music. Mixing bossa nova with jazz and blues, he presents a show with lots of energy and harmony.

One of the most striking characteristics of singer and pianist Marcos Ariel is his power to interact with the audience, telling stories and curiosities about the repertoire of the show.

Marcos Ariel is in the forefront of contemporary Brazilian music.  His musical style is purely “Carioca” (one who is a native of Rio de Janeiro) splashed with a passion for classical and jazz.  His enthusiasm as a pianist, singer and composer is inspiring. As a musician, he is swift and precise, transcending genuine warmth that can only be Marcos Ariel.

For this Carlyle Club performance, Marcos Ariel will be joined by fellow, talented musicians
who share his love for Brazilian music, and bossa nova in particular.

The Washington-based jazz ensemble Collaboration, has performed for the Inauguration Galas of both President Bill Clinton (1997) and President Barack Obama (2008); and over the years have shared the stage with many nationally-known recording artists such as Patty LaBelle and the great Stanley Turrentine.

Vocals will feature Washington, D.C.-nativeLori Williams who seamlessly moves from Jazz to R&B in ways the listener can feel at home with her in either genre.  Possessing an impressive resume as a performing artist, educator, songwriter, producer, support vocalist as well as musical theater actress, her reputation and level of respect are top shelf and unimpeachable.  Lori Williamshas been featured withartists such as Gospel’s Yolanda Adams and Walter Hawkins; R&B’s Howard Hewett, Will Downing and Phil Perry; Contemporary Jazz’s Stanley Jordan, Nathan East, Norman Brown and Tom Browne; Traditional Jazz’s Slide Hampton, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Winard Harper; super producer/composer/singer Angela Winbush; and Tap Dance sensation, Savion Glover.
